Measuring device for TV ratings measurement (audience metering)
The device was developed on behalf of a consumer research company that operates throughout Germany in order to measure viewing figures as a result of increased digital TV usage.
In addition to the use of the classic reception channels cable (analog and digital), terrestrial and satellite, the focus of the measurement was also on analog video recorders, as well as time-shifted viewing via digital recording devices such as hard drives and DVD recorders. The measurement data is sent to Nuremberg via an integrated PCMCIA plug-in module via GSM data connection or the in-house Internet connection, where they are evaluated.
IDS Digital was commissioned to implement the software for the project due to its many years of experience in the digital TV sector.
The focus of software development was:

✦ Integration/use of the Conexant SDK for digital and analog signal processing
✦ Programming of interfaces
✦ Designing a user-friendly interface
✦ Programmierung von Standard TV Funktionen(Untertitel, Teletext, Timeshift etc.)
✦ Preparation of measurement data according to the client's requirements
✦ Implementation of a user registration procedure for personal data collection
✦ The device was used for representative measurements in over 5,000 households throughout Germany.
